A Logan woman who brutally bashed her own mother over an argument about household chores was found with a disturbing secret hidden in the family home.
Reuben Jarred Wheaton bashed her mother in the head during the argument on March 27 last year at their Springwood property, a court heard.
The 31-year-old was told by her mother she would be kicked out unless she started helping out around the house.
Beenleigh District Court heard on May 13 that Wheaton’s 54-year-old mother had LAS (Lance-Adams Syndrome), a skin tissue disorder and had a pacemaker.
Wheaton knew that and after an argument stormed off to her bedroom.
She then charged down the stairs and punched her mother in the head several times, bruising her head severely.
The court heard the mother’s screams for help could be heard from the nearby houses and neighbours rushed to help before calling police.
The mother was taken to Logan Hospital with a 20cm cut to her scalp, which the court heard would have become infected without medical intervention.
Police searched Wheaton’s mobile phone and found messages where she admitted she “belted” her own mother because she was about to kick her out.
On March 30, 2023 her mother returned home from hospital and was cleaning out Wheaton’s bedroom when she discovered a disturbing collection of written, fictional child exploitation material, penned by her daughter.
The details were not put explicitly before the court but were referred to as “varied and deeply disturbing” by Crown Prosecutor Catherine Birkett.
“It was a little unusual as it was only written child exploitation material,” Ms Birkett said.
“It was her own child committing the vicious attack against her... I think a term of actual imprisonment is necessary.”
Wheaton pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm (domestic violence offence) and one count of making child exploitation material.
The court heard she had no criminal history, identified as transgender and had mental disabilities.
Wheaton offered a letter of apology to the court and was supported by her father in the public gallery.
Judge Craig Chowdhury said the mother’s injuries were serious and the details of the offences were very concerning.
“I’ve seen the photos and it’s horrific,” he said.
“The child exploitation material was highly offensive, explicit sexual commentary towards newborn and young children. It is appalling.
“I wouldn’t be doing my duty if I didn’t sentence you to an actual jail term.”
Wheaton was sentenced to three-and-a-half years’ prison, to be suspended after serving six months.
She will then be placed on a two-year probation order.
