Rachael Kleintank: Beenleigh mum guilty of aggravated ice possession

A Logan mum previously convicted of ice trafficking has been sentenced for possessing an aggravated quantity of the drug on behalf of her then-partner.

A heavily-pregnant Logan mum, formerly of the Redcliffe peninsula, has narrowly avoided having to give birth behind bars for a second time, after she was sentenced for aggravated possession of methamphetamine.

Beenleigh woman Rachael Christina Kleintank, 33, pleaded guilty in Brisbane Supreme Court on Tuesday to a handful of drug-related offences, which were detected following a search warrant at a Beenleigh residence on May 8, 2019.

A search of the address uncovered six clipseal bags containing a total of 8.229g pure meth within 10.8g of crystals.

It was accepted the meth, although a commercial quantity as defined under Queensland legislation, was for personal use and she was collecting it on behalf of her drug beau, with whom she has since separated.

The court heard Kleintank was a recidivist drug offender who had been dealt with by the courts on no fewer than 14 occasions since she turned 18.

Most seriously, she was previously sentenced to three years’ imprisonment with immediate parole release for trafficking in methamphetamine, where she acted as a “middleman” in an operation.

Defence counsel Simone Bain told the court her client had been making “very good progress” with her rehabilitation and was in close contact with a number of support services.

She said the mum-of-two’s third child was due in March next year.

“Her five-year-old was born in custody and she doesn’t want the same outcome for this child,” Ms Bain said.

Justice Peter Applegarth said he was “impressed” by Kleintank’s rehabilitation.

He sentenced her to 18 months’ imprisonment with immediate release on parole.
