A Logan man has faced court after drunkenly crashing head-on into a family’s car, while three times over the legal limit.

Jacobs Well pool finisher Bryce Print, 32, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on Friday, March 3, to one count of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm while affected by an intoxicating substance and one count of driving while under the influence of liquor.

The court heard Print was driving on Hein Rd in Buccan on February 6, 2021 when he crossed onto the opposite side of the road and ploughing into a car containing Leanne Tyrrell-Raddatz’s and her two daughters.

“A witness described him as driving fast,” the crown prosecutor for the matter said.

“As the victims approached the crest of the road, their car was struck head-on by the defendant who was driving on the wrong side of the road.

“Ms Tyrrell sustained life-threatening injuries that required her to go through numerous surgeries and she was hospitalised for 11 weeks.

“A blood test confirmed his reading of 0.190 per cent which is deemed to be in the high range.

Print’s lawyer, Nick McGhee, said his client had been suffering from alcohol addiction.

“My client relapsed back into alcohol abuse,” Mr McGhee said.

“On the day he’d be consuming alcohol in conjunction with Valium.

“He has very limited recall of the accident, he was mortified at the harm and injury that he caused.

“He was immediately remorseful and apologising at the scene.”

Judge Tony Moynihan KC said Print’s actions had impacted Ms Tyrrell-Raddatz’s family forever.

“You had been driving ridiculously and dangerously for some distance,” Judge Moynihan KC said.

“Ms Tyrrell underwent 11 surgical procedures, removal of 70 per cent of her bowel.

“(One daughter) suffered a fracture to the femur and wrist and underwent surgery.

“(The other daughter) was taken to the Queensland children’s hospital suffering abrasions and bruises.

“You made false self-serving statements.

“You have adversely affected their lives forever.”

Print was sentenced to five years jail, suspended after serving 18 months.

He was disqualified from driving for five years.

For driving under the influence of liquor he was disqualified from driving for 12 months.
