A SPIKE in trailer thefts south of Brisbane has sparked a warning from police to “lock it or lose it”.
Ten trailers have been stolen from the Logan area over the past six weeks, according to Loganholme constable Emma Wardlaw.
“These trailers are often stolen while in plain sight, on the road or front yard of a residence or a business within the industrial area,” she said.
“Most thefts are occurring overnight and trailers are accessed by offenders cutting the padlock and attaching the trailer to the rear of their vehicle and driving away.”
Constable Wardlaw said the thefts had occurred in Loganholme, Shailer Park, Tanah Merah and Cornubia and the majority were not caught on CCTV.
“80 per cent of them had no footage which makes it hard for police,” she said.
One vehicle, a 1999-2003 white Holden Commodore Wagon with suspension, is wanted over the theft of a trailer from a service station.
Constable Wardlow said it is not known if the wagon is linked to multiple offences.
Trailer owners are urged to put them out of sight and consider using high quality wheel locks and CCTV footage.
“For those who have been victim to a recent trailer theft in the area, consider regularly monitoring online sale sites to see if you can identify your trailer,” constable Wardlow said.
If anyone has any information in relation to these thefts, contact police on 131 444.
