Shot fired as armed men storm Logan home in random attack

Residents of a Logan home, including an elderly man, have been terrified by three armed intruders overnight who stormed their house with a shotgun and knives.

A Logan household, including an elderly man, has been left terrified by three armed intruders on Monday.

Three men, armed with what appeared to be a shotgun and two knives, forced entry to a home along Bryants Rd at Loganholme around 9pm.

Police say the trio stole property and money before fleeing, firing a shot into a door as they left.

The 72-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman were at the property at the time and were not physically injured as a result of the incident.

A crime scene was declared by police and investigations are underway.

It’s believed the offenders were not known to the residents.

Detective Inspector Chris Knight said the offenders were covering their faces.

“They have run into that address, exerted extreme violence to the occupants of the house and during that offence a shot was discharged from a shotgun, it has passed through a door,” he said.

“That is an extremely concerning offence, any firearms activity in our district we take very seriously.”

Det Insp Knight said the people at the house at the time were “average citizens”.

“The concern to us is that type of offending unfortunately, when it happens in this nature, was completely unanticipated and there was no obvious cause that we can see for it,” he said.

“As you can imagine when you have got three offenders all armed, overtly armed, that degree of threat, threat of violence, is very very serious.”

Police are appealing to anyone who lives on Bryants Rd and who may have heard a loud disturbance at that time, to contact them.
