A Logan resident has described the “exploding flames” he saw on Saturday night, when an alleged stolen Lexus was torched outside a popular park.
Clive D’Silva said he was driving on his way home and saw an unusual orange light emanating from a car parked at Svoboda Park in Kuraby.
“I got closer then saw two hooded guys sprint across the road in front of me and hop into a black SUV,” he said.
“As I drove past, I could see them zooming away towards Underwood and thought something was definitely wrong so I did a U-turn and came back to find the Lexus on fire inside, and getting worse.
“It started exploding with flames, emerging high above the vehicle.”
Mr D’Silva said police and fire emergency services arrived and extinguished the blaze.
“By the time ‘fireys’ got there it was burning intensely and catching the tree, they extinguished it well but it was a pretty unnerving incident.”
Queensland Police allege the car was stolen from a north Brisbane suburb late on Saturday night and then torched.
“In the early hours of October 15, a stolen Lexus UX200 was set alight on Stiller Drive, the vehicle had been stolen from an Aspley address on October 14,” said a Queensland Police spokesperson.
“Police are investigating the arson of the vehicle and investigations are continuing.”
Nobody has been charged at this stage.
