Plans for new shopping centre and Coles at Richlands

A developer has lodged plans for a new shopping centre south of Brisbane, to be anchored by a Coles supermarket and up to 18 specialty stores.

Two suburbs south of Brisbane are poised to receive a new place to do their shopping, with plans for a new shopping centre and Coles supermarket lodged.

Home Investment Consortium Company Ltd has lodged an application to develop a Coles supermarket and shopping centre at 159 and 177 Progress Road, Richlands.

The Coles supermarket would be joined by up to 18 specialty stores over the 28,885sqm site, currently occupied by a single dwelling and vegetation.

Set across two buildings and one-storey, the development would reach a height of 14.6 metres and have a gross floor area of 6062m2.

The tenancy mix hasn’t been finalised in the application but approval over the site includes food and drink outlet, health care service, office and shop.

There would be 265 car parks provided at ground level that would include six click and collect bays, six motorbike bays, eight disability bays, five EV charging bays and six Coles online order vans bays.

The proposed hours of operation for the proposed shop, food and drink outlet and health care services are between 7am-9pm/10pm, Monday to Sunday.

According to the application, the intent of the development seeks a new district shopping centre for the suburb of Richlands and Wacol.

“The site is located within the DC2 District centre (Corridor) and the Richlands-Wacol corridor neighbourhood plan which encourages a diverse of centre activities, including commercial, retail, service, government, community,” the application reads.

“The development will reinforce the intended role of the site as a centre corridor by offering a blend of land uses in close proximity to the key public transport node, the Richlands Railway Station, along with the surrounding residential catchment.

“The proposal will enhance the scope, variety, and competitive landscape of retail offerings in the locality, enhancing consumer choice.

“The complex will offer a diverse variety of commercial and retail services that are accessible by public transport and support local industrial and residential areas.

“To support pedestrian movement on the site, the proposed development will deliver important upgrades to the Progress Road and Acacia Street verge areas adjoining the site.

“These improvements include resurfacing of the footpath adjoining the site, provision of street trees and supporting landscaping.”
