A Logan man who had been drinking since before noon, lashed out and punched two women while stumbling in the toilet.

Nikola John Markov, 40, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on Tuesday to two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.

The court heard Markov was highly intoxicated after a day of heavy drinking from 10am on May 19, 2019 when he stumbled into the toilet at a private home in Loganlea.

He then woke up on the toilet and lashed out violently against two women, throwing punches.

A victim impact statement tendered to the court stated the two women had suffered pain and injury from the attack.

It is understood he knew the women.

The court heard Markov, a Coopers Plains father of three and a traffic controller, had no history of violent offending.

Defence barrister Robert Glenday said the “bizarre” offending was out of character for his client and there was no premeditation or planning.

Judge Tony Moynihan noted Markov’s lack of criminal history.

“It’s a very unusual set of circumstances and seems to be unplanned, aberrant behaviour,” he said.

Markov was sentenced to 12 months in jail but the term was wholly suspended.

Convictions were recorded.
