Police prosecutor Seargent Donna Kay told the court Barrett was found by police stuck in her vehicle after “travelling into flood waters” in Belivah at 10.10pm on February 26.

Police conducted a breath test after she showed signs of slurred speech and smelt of alcohol and it returned a positive reading of 0.155 per cent.

Barrett’s lawyer told the court his client had been drinking earlier at a friend’s birthday party.

He said Barrett’s husband had been diagnosed with a grade four brain tumour in January and she wanted to get home to him.

“He had been having seizures earlier that week and so out of that anxiety and concern she made the decision to drive home,” he said.

“Unfortunately she turned into a road she was unfamiliar, unaware that it was flooded.”

He described the offending as “out of character” for Barrett.

He said she has completed a bachelor law degree and was now working as an executive manager at a major supermarket chain.

Barrett is also skilled in training people and horses in the art of dressage, according to her LinkedIn profile.

She was fined $800 and disqualified from driving for six months. No convictions recorded.
