A Logan woman’s out-of-control feud with another mum ended in an accidental punch to the face of a one-year-old baby, a court has heard.
Melissa Jean Cronin, 41, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court to two counts of common assault.
The court heard the Logan Central woman was having an argument with a woman and was shouting and yelling in an unintelligible manner.
The other woman was holding her one-year-old child at the time and asked Cronin why she was so angry.
Cronin then tried to punch her in the face but instead struck the child’s head, the court heard.
She also grabbed the woman by the hair and kept hitting her.
Photos tendered to the court showed the victim suffered scratches all over her face and some of her hair had been pulled out.
Two days later, Cronin returned to the house and made offensive and insulting remarks to the victim.
“Those kids aren’t safe, the s--t needs to move,” Cronin yelled outside the woman’s home.
The court heard Cronin was a mother of five and was extremely remorseful for her behaviour.
Magistrate Shane Elliott said it was one of the more serious examples of common assault due to the victim’s injuries and the fact a child was struck.
“Why would someone strike a one-year-old?” Mr Elliott asked.
“I accept you are now remorseful, but that offending calls for a term of imprisonment.”
Cronin was sentenced to nine months’ jail. She was released immediately on parole.
