A Marsden man who led police on a wild car chase through red lights and into oncoming traffic was sentenced to prison at the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday.

Clarke, who appeared via video link from prison, almost collided with a police car and narrowly avoided “seriously injuring or killing” members of the public when he sped through red lights and into oncoming traffic.

“You’re lucky no one was injured by your foolishness,” said the Magistrate.

Once Clarke’s vehicle was forced to stop he made a run for it, fleeing over nearby fences in an effort to avoid police.

The court heard police eventually caught up with Clarke, who violently struggled against arrest and was ultimately detained.

Clarke had been wanted for stealing a Zero-X drone and a Dyson vacuum from JB Hifi at Carindale on October 14.

The unemployed 37-year-old, who has four children and usually lives with his mother, developed a drug addiction after his previous partner broke up with him, according to his lawyer.

The court heard it was this drug addiction that was at the core of Clarke’s offending.

He was sentenced to a total of two years and nine months imprisonment with immediate parole release and disqualified from driving for two years.
