A former Brisbane flight attendant caught behind the wheel three times over the legal alcohol limit at Logan was stopped by cops after driving erratically on the Pacific Motorway.

Martin James Kerr, 58, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday to driving while under the influence of liquor.

The court heard the McDowall dad was driving a Silver Toyota Camry along Ursula Court, Springwood, when police pulled him over for a roadside breath test after receiving reports of a car driving erratically on Pacific Motorway about 7.45pm on September 19.

The test revealed he had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.173 per cent.

Kerr’s lawyer told the court he had been struggling at the time with his brother’s passing and had finished a bottle of shiraz on the night in question before driving to a friend’s place.

“He was at home alone and commenced drinking without the intention of going anywhere at about 5pm, by about 6pm he had consumed a bottle of shiraz,” he said.

“He felt a breakdown coming on so he sought solace in the company of a friend who resided in Annerley.”

“He was on his way to his friend’s house and got lost and ended up on the motorway.”

He said Kerr had recently retired from working as a flight attendant with Virgin Australia and was “extremely embarrassed and remorseful” for his actions.

Magistrate Michael O’Driscoll said while he accepted that Kerr was grieving at the time, he shouldn’t have looked to alcohol to solve his problems.

“From my perspective, there is never any solution in relation to a problem, if you need help … you go to see a professional to give you guidance,” Mr O’Driscoll said.

Kerr was fined $1200 and was disqualified from holding or obtaining a drivers licence for 11 months.
