Loganlea woman on horrifying moment her puppy was mauled in front of her

A Logan woman has spoken of the horrifying moment her eight-month-old puppy was mauled on their daily walk.

A Logan woman says she will never walk her puppy again after it was viciously attacked by another dog.

Loganlea woman Jayme Albert said she was walking her shar pei staffordshire terrier-cross on Sunday, November 6, on Haig Rd when another dog, a male bull mastiff, attacked her eight-month-old puppy named Boss.

“I went for a walk thinking it was safe, that no one could hurt him, not thinking my dog would be brutally attacked three doors up from home,” Ms Albert said.

“I was walking back home after having a play in the water at a park and having a lovely walk with my fur baby like I do every day when a vicious dog lunged out of its yard grabbing my puppy, dragging him on to the road and back to the footpath.

“(The dog) was foaming from the mouth as it wasn't letting go.

“It took seven people to get this dog off my puppy.”

Ms Albert said the dog bit Boss, drawing large amounts of blood and inflicting puncture wounds.

“He bit my dog’s mouth, the side of his neck and his ribs,” she said.

“I was covered in my dog’s blood, there was so much blood down my legs.”

Ms Albert said the owner came over when the dog grabbed her puppy’s belly.

“I (told) him that I was going to do everything in my power to save my puppy.”

A man driving past saw the attack and stepped in, along with other bystanders.

“What I went through was horrible, it traumatised me,” she said.

“I don't think I will ever be able to bring myself to walk my puppy again, I’m that scared of the dog killing him next time.

“I was so (upset) about the situation, I ended up having a minor panic attack later.

“It was very terrifying, I still keep replaying the attack in my head like it just happened.”

Ms Albert’s neighbour, Angela Von Nida, who provided a witness statement, said the screaming was unlike anything she had ever heard.

“I could hear this intense screaming and yelling from across the road,” Ms Von Nida said.

“I saw the victim on the footpath laying down as she was trying to save her dog.

“I could see blood all over the dog.”

Ms Von Nida said it wasn’t the first attack in the area.

“As I was walking back to my house another neighbour stated the same dog almost attacked her that same morning while she was taking the rubbish to her bin,” she said.

The attack had been reported to Logan City Council, however, the dog was removed from the property before they could get there in time.

Ms Albert said her puppy meant the world to her.

“He is the only thing I have left. I lost my house, my stuff in the floods (in February),” she said.
