Loganlea’s Daniel John Olive, 22, pleaded guilty in the Beenleigh District Court on Wednesday, November 2, to one count of serious assault of a police officer causing bodily harm.

The court heard Olive was intercepted by police on March 12, 2021 at Marsden on an outstanding prison warrant.

“Upon exiting his vehicle he attempted to run away,” the crown prosecutor said.

“He was charged and remanded in custody.”

Olive’s lawyer, Stephen Kissick, said his client was involved in a tumble with a police officer.

“In the process of pursuing him, what we see is a ‘rumble in the jungle’,” Mr Kissick said.

“What we see is the police officer suffering an injury to his hand.”

Mr Kissick said Olive wanted to get back to work if released.

“He wants to engage in jewellery design,” he said.

Judge Craig Chowdhury said Olive had a significant criminal background, which was “racking up”.

“Convictions for choking, serious assault, unlawful use of motor vehicles,” he said.

“It is your fault when you start committing offences.”

Mr Chowdhury said he needed to understand the difficulty of a police officer’s job.

“I understand you didn’t want to go back to prison but at the end of the day you just have to take your medicine,” he said.

Olive was convicted but not further punished.
