Don’t leave your car or house unlocked in Logan Central or Beenleigh and if you live in Crestmead take care walking the streets.

These were some of the crime hotspots which featured in the latest police crime statistics.

There were two reports of alleged murders in Logan over the year at Fermont Rd, near restaurants on Logan Rd on February 24 and at Redwood St, Marsden on June 13.

They showed some of the state’s most dangerous streets in the past year were in Logan, south of Brisbane, where home break-ins were up a massive 41 per cent.

Logan Ratepayers Association president Rod Shaw said residents were fed up with crime spiralling out of control and called on the state and local governments to mete out harsher penalties for offenders.

“Residents are telling me they are terrified in their own homes and don’t know what to do,” Mr Shaw said.

“One ratepayer at Rochedale South has been broken into three times this year.

“How much more do we have to endure?”

The latest statistics also showed that, over the year to September, car thefts in the Logan police district were up 28 per cent and assaults rose by 27 per cent.

Logan Village and Yarrabilba experienced a 63 per cent increase in break-ins while the bustling business centre of Springwood was flogged with a pronounced 58 per cent rise in break-ins and home invasions.

Loganholme residents had a 54 per cent spike in home invasions and break-ins with 242 cases reported, up from 157 the year before.

In nearby Logan Central, there were 1066 cases of home invasions and break-ins reported for the year to September, a massive 48 per cent spike on 2022, when there were reports of 717 homes broken into.

Beenleigh, another business district, also suffered with 672 reports of break-ins, up 43 per cent.

There were 542 break-ins reported in Crestmead, 469 at Browns Plains and 238 at Jimboomba.

Car thefts across Logan were also up more than 28 per cent with a massive 540 cars nicked in Logan Central and 359 in Beenleigh in the year to September.

One of the worst car theft cases involved a Mercedes-Benz stolen from the Carrara boat ramp in September.

Police halted the car at Waterford West after giving chase and laying tyre spikes.

Seven teens were arrested.

Logan resident Naomi Bourke witnessed the chase and watched as police on foot made the arrests.

Acting Chief Superintendent Peter Miles said initial reports claimed the teens had clocked speeds of near 200km an hour, and some of the passengers were allegedly sitting outside the car while it was being driven.

There were 215 cars stolen in Springwood and 196 that were driven away without the owner’s consent in Browns Plains.

Assaults were also on the rise over the year to September with 5313 reported for the entire district, a rise of more than 27 per cent.

The worst suburbs for assaults in Logan were Logan Central, Beenleigh and Crestmead with more than 850 cases reported in each. Browns Plains, Springwood and Jimboomba were also assault hotspots.

The city’s most dangerous street was Croydon Rd near Station Rd and the Global Food Market at Logan Central.

Residents there endured 148 reported crimes over the year including 51 reports of drug offences, 27 weapons reports, 11 thefts, six reports of fraud, six break-ins, six assaults, four car thefts and one robbery.

Beware when near Kingston Rd at Laughlin St. That stretch recorded the most number of crimes with 210 over the year including reports of 188 thefts, eight fraud cases, six recorded drug offences and even a report of a weapons crime.

Other crime streets included Jacaranda Ave at Logan Central where there were 195 crimes reported including 26 drug offences, 10 weapons offences, two assaults and six cases of damage to property.

These are the worst crime-riddled streets in Logan to November.

LOGAN CENTRAL

Jacaranda Ave near Civic Pde: Within walking distance to Logan City Council chambers and the local police station recorded 195 crimes in the year to November. The area backs on to a large park which includes a water play area and is easy access to Logan Brothers Rugby Leagues Club.

Croydon Rd and Station Rd: close to Woodridge train station, where there were 148 reported crimes over the year including 51 drug offences, 27 weapons cases, 11 thefts.

MARSDEN

Chambers Flat Rd and Bourke St: near McDonald’s restaurant and Marsden Shopping Centre: 264 crimes: 175 thefts; 14 fraud; 8 drug; 8 car theft; 5 assaults; 3 break-ins; 2 weapons; 1 robbery.

CRESTMEAD

Second Ave and Browns Plains Rd: 94 crimes: 78 thefts; 4 break-ins; 2 assaults; 1 weapons; 1 drug; 3 Traffic related

KINGSTON

Laughlin St and Kingston Rd, opposite Gould Adams Park and near Sunshine Auto Wash: 210 crimes reported: including 188 thefts; 8 fraud; 6 drug; 1 weapon.

BEENLEIGH

Macs Lane and Market Place Dr: There were 181 crimes reported in the area including 119 thefts; 20 fraud cases; 7 instances of drugs; seven assaults; four robberies; three break-ins and one car theft.

SPRINGWOOD

Cinderella Dr and Springwood Rd: This is within walking distance to restaurants and shops including Dan Murphy’s liquor barn and the main Springwood bus interchange. There were 132 crimes: 113 thefts; 8 fraud; 3 break-ins; 2 drug; 2 car theft; 1 assault

YARRABILBA

Wongawallan Dr and Yarrabilba Dr: There were 74 reported crimes on this stretch outside the McDonald’s drive-through and the Coles supermarket complex.
