The court heard Queensland Police’s Task Force Argos identified a Russian image-sharing website user making comments on photos, including photos of child exploitation materials.

An investigation arose from it, and a search warrant was executed at a residence in Chambers Flat that Hannan had been living at on January 31, 2019.

The elderly father of two’s computer, laptop and portable storage devices were seized during the search.

A forensic analysis conducted revealed that 6500 pornography files were accessed on the devices.

There were 630 remnant files of child exploitation material found stored in temporary cache files on the computer, including a clip showing a child of about three years old being orally penetrated.

The court heard he had access to child pornography files on “hundreds of occasions” between November 2016 and January 2019.

Records indicated that 728 keyword file names had been streamed on the devices, which included “Lolita”, “child lover” and “pedo.”

Hannan‘s lawyers said the 81-year-old had since moved to a retirement home on the Sunshine Coast.

They said he was struggling with cognitive and health difficulties in his old age.

On count one of accessing child pornography, Hannan was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment and released upon entering a recognisance of good behaviour for two years.

On count two of possessing child exploitation materials, he was given a six month suspended sentence.
