Darren Justin Lourenson, 51, faced Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday, June 25 charged with one count of stealing by persons in the public service.

The Waterford West man works as a registered nurse at Logan Hospital in Meadowbrook.

Police allege that on January 20, Mr Lourenson was working a shift and charged with the responsibility of administering paracetamol and oxycodone to a patient.

Police allege he used his ID card to swipe the computer and access 1000mg of paracetamol and 5mg of oxycodone for the patient.

He then filled up the patient’s cup with water and got the paracetamol ready but used his fist to pocket the oxycodone, police allege.

“I don’t think he’s given me the Endone”, was what the patient allegedly said to her mother-in-law who was in the hospital supporting her, police allege.

Endone is a brand name for the opioid oxycodone, used as a pain relief medication.

The patient’s mother-in-law then allegedly said “no he hasn’t”.

The incident was witnessed by another registered nurse and reported to police.

Mr Lourenson’s matters were adjourned to Beenleigh Magistrates Court on July 24 and a brief of evidence was ordered.

No plea has been entered.
