A tattoo clad mum from Ipswich was found by the dog squad hiding under a tree with a bleeding head wound after allegedly crashing a stolen car in Logan and fleeing the scene, a court has heard.

Newton resident Leanne June Oberhardt, 43, applied for bail in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Thursday facing six charges: dangerous operation of a vehicle and adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, driver fails to remain at an incident, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter dwelling and commit an indictable offence, driving without a licence and receiving tainted property.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Rochelle Paz Landim told the court that offenders had allegedly gained entry to a dwelling at night and stole items including a wallet, bank cards and a red Holden Cruze on December 2, 2021.

She said the stolen vehicle was later allegedly involved in a two-vehicle traffic crash in Slacks Creek early the following morning.

The court heard witnesses allegedly saw Ms Oberhardt turn right at an intersection without slowing down before colliding with another vehicle.

“The witness and passenger sustained mild injuries, and the female driver, namely the defendant, was observed to be unsteady on her feet, appearing to show she was under the influence of a substance,” Sgt Paz Landim.

“There were multiple witnesses who said they endangered the lives of the occupants in the other vehicle.”

The court heard Ms Oberhardt and a male passenger in the car then allegedly fled the crash scene.

“A male person wearing black exited the passenger side and left with an unknown package,” Sgt Paz Landim said.

“The female person climbed out the driver’s seat through the passenger side and left the scene.

“The dog squad attended and tracked the female to an address in Woodridge. She was hiding under a tree, this is the defendant in the matter, and was arrested.”

“She was wearing the same clothes that were described by the witnesses.”

The court heard Ms Oberhardt appeared to have head injuries and was taken to hospital where she was required to give blood.

Police allege there were bloodstains on the driver’s side door of the stolen car, consistent with her injuries.

The court heard Ms Oberhardt had an extensive history dating back to 1999.

Ms Oberhardt’s lawyer told the court her client had spent 77 days in pre-sentence custody and intended to dispute the charges.

“As a result of the crash, my client suffered significant injuries and had to be hospitalised,” she said.

“She had a haematoma and required stitches in her leg and staples in her head.”

Her lawyer also said Ms Oberhardt had been unwell in custody due to complications from gastric sleeve surgery.

She said Ms Oberhardt worked for a realty business in Toowoomba before being remanded in custody and hoped to secure employment on release.

Magistrate Terry Duroux refused the application for bail due to an unacceptable risk of committing further offences.

She was remanded in custody, and her matters were adjourned for call over on March 16.
