Knife-wielding burglar serves year behind bars after terrorising Bowen Hills residence

The heart-stopping moment an inner-Brisbane resident caught a burglar with a suitcase of valuables in their home has been revealed in court.

A 26-year-old Underwood man who terrorised a Bowen Hills resident, when he was caught inside their house with a knife and a suitcase full of stolen valuables has faced court.

Beenleigh Magistrates Court heard Dylan Condrit and two others broke into the letterbox of a Bowen Hills apartment, accessed a house key located inside and used it to enter the home unlawfully.

They did damage to the unit before the victim returned home at 7.30pm and caught the trio red-handed.

The victim saw the intruders with a suitcase full of valuables and shouted “what are you doing in my house”?

The court heard intruders hurled abuse at the victim before fleeing.

Condrit pleaded guilty to illegally entering a premises and possession of a knife.

Last month, the Underwood resident appeared before Beenleigh District Court on a variety of charges, including impersonating a police officer.

Condrit wreaked havoc at a southeast Queensland service station, demanding a customer’s car keys while high on drugs and under the influence of alcohol.

Condrit’s criminal offences date back to 2016 and include multiple counts of drug possession, possession of a knife and being a public nuisance.

The previous sentence was taken into account by Magistrate Terry Ducoux who acknowledged the 369 days Condrit had already spent in police custody.

Magistrate Ducoux warned the defendant that charges of robbery held a potential maximum life sentence.

He said crimes of this nature were common in Bowen Hills and in the Logan area and said he understood Condrit was dealing with health issues.

Condrit was released on parole on account of the year-long pre-sentence custody already served.
