A Marsden mum has appeared in court after allegedly punching a cop in the head in a bid to escape after she crashed into a driveway with her three kids in the car.

Keryn Maree Wylie, 37, appeared in custody in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday facing six charges including dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, common assault and two counts of serious assault of a police officer by biting/spitting.

The court heard the residents in the vicinity of Overland Dr and Leighton Dr in Edens Landing heard the sound of a motor vehicle’s engine revving loudly and the tires screeching before there was a crash at 8pm on Sunday, November 21, 2021.

Police will allege one of the witnesses saw a silver-coloured Ford Sedan being driven by Wylie crashing through fences and ending up in a driveway at a home on Overland Dr.

The witness also allegedly saw three children in the rear passenger seat and advised Wylie, who was attempting to put the vehicle in reverse and leave the incident, to wait until an ambulance arrived to assess the children.

Police will allege Wylie ignored that advice and continued to try leave the scene.

An off duty female police officer arrived at the scene and told Wylie she was detained and couldn’t leave the incident.

Wylie then allegedly grabbed the officer by the collar of her police polo and twisted her grip, causing the collar to restrict around the officer’s neck.

By this stage, a number of other witnesses were on the scene and Wylie allegedly proceeded to punch the police officer in the side of the head a number of times.

Police also allege Wylie spat directly onto the officer’s face twice as she attempted to restrain her.

The court heard Wylie also allegedly threatened the police officer when she was seen later at the hospital receiving medical treatment and said words to the effect of: “I know where you live. I’m going to get you.”

Wylie’s lawyer told the court she intended to dispute the alleged facts.

Magistrate Cameron Mckenzie noted she had six prior convictions for breach of bail and denied her application for bail due to an unacceptable risk to reoffend and the strength of evidence against the defendant.

She was remanded in custody and her matters were adjourned to December 13, 2021.
