A 30-year-old Eagleby hoon has landed in court after “putting lives at risk” and almost hitting people while doing doughnuts in a shopping centre car park.
Father of one Kristopher Reece Dimopoulos, 30, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday to five charges including dangerous operation of a vehicle, driving without a licence and obstructing police.
The court heard the dad began driving around Eagleby hooning and doing doughnuts at around 3am on Sunday, July 17, 2021, when his rear wheels burst and continued driving on the rims of his car.
He then drove into the Eagbly shopping plaza car park at about 3.50am and began revving his ending loudly causing the wheels to spin and for the vehicle to slide from side to side from the correct side of the road to the incorrect side of the road.
At this time a patron had just left a nearby tavern and was walking through the car park when Dimopoulos performed another doughnut, which forced the rear tailgate of his ute to open and items in the car to fly out and almost hit the patron.
Police attended his home in Eagleby some hours later and Dimopoulos had to be tasered to be brought under control.
Magistrate Cameron Mckenzie described it as an “appalling incident where he put people lives at risk.”
He was convicted and placed on a 10-month head sentence of imprisonment with an immediate parole release date.
His licence was also disqualified for six months and was fined $500.
