A young Logan woman who has been in custody since August needs to be ‘urgently’ sentenced or bailed due to medical conditions including worsening sepsis and a badly broken leg, her lawyer has told a court.

Regents Park woman Kayla Ann Reisinger-Gonzalez, 24, was arrested on August 6 at Browns Plains after a head-on collision in a stolen car in which she was a passenger resulted in her broken leg.

Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday heard the break has resulted in a staph infection which has worsened into sepsis.

Her 15 offences were committed between October 9, 2019 and the date of her collision and injury.

Her offences include: two breaches of bail, dangerous operation of a vehicle, three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, fou counts of possessing dangerous drugs, two counts of driving without a licence disqualified by court order, evading police, stealing and failing to appear.

Defence lawyer Raquel Brehmer told the court her client instructed her she “wasn’t getting the best treatment” in prison for her sepsis.

Wednesday’s appearance was originally to be a sentence, but this was unable to proceed due to the inexplicable existence of charges of a like nature in Brisbane Magistrates Court which had not been transferred across to be dealt with alongside her other charges before the Beenleigh court.

Ms Brehmer said this raised real concerns of “totality” and noted her client “urgently” needed to be either bailed or sentenced due to her precarious medical condition.

Her charges were adjourned to next Thursday for sentence, to allow the Brisbane matters to be dealt with.
