Bunnings’ planned $36M new Logan warehouse will create a jobs boom for rural residents and tradespeople.

Bunnings are set to spend $36 million building a new hardware warehouse in Jimboomba, creating close to 200 new jobs.

The store, which will be Logan’s fifth, will be built right next door to a locally owned Mitre 10.

Despite the development application being approved, Logan City Councillor for Division 9 Scott Bannan said council and Bunnings were still negotiating.

“The warehouse has been approved but they haven’t actually bought the land yet,” Cr Bannan said.

“There is still some back and forth on the traffic management plan too.

“TMR hasn’t approved that part yet either.”

Andrew Marks, director of Bunnings Property and Store Development said he could confirm the development application for a new Bunnings Warehouse in Jimboomba had been approved. “However we are continuing to work with the relevant authorities on the conditions of the development approval, including roadworks,” Mr Marks said.

“The new store would be located on Anders Street, Jimboomba and the site was chosen to service the growing areas of Jimboomba, Yarrabilba and Flagstone.

“The development is expected to create more than 95 team member positions for locals, as well as approximately 105 construction jobs.”

Mr Marks said Bunnings would invest approximately $36 million into the development, which would ultimately span over 15,000 square metres and have parking for over 370 cars.

“We look forward to being part of the local Jimboomba community,” he said.

The current development application for the Bunnings Warehouse has been approved, however Bunnings are currently working through some amendments to the conditions, which is part of the usual development approval process.

Councillor Scott Bannan said he believed there could be some backlash with the hardware giant moving in next door to the Mitre 10.

“But I ultimately believe this will be positive for the local community,” he said.

“Nothing wrong with a bit of competition.

“And it’s bringing jobs which is always a positive.”

This year Bunnings has revealed even more plans for new stores in Queensland, with Jimboomba being the most recent announcment.

A new $32 million Bunnings will be built at Caboolture this year creating more than 100 jobs. The new 13,000 sqm warehouse will be built at the old ‘Big Fish’ site on the corner of the Bruce Highway and Pumicestone Road – now known as the Sungate Business Park.

An $18 million Bunnings opened at Plainland opened in June this year, with more than 100 staff employed in the store.

A new Yeppoon multimillion-dollar Bunnings warehouse also opened its doors for the first time in May this year.

The Jimboomba Mitre 10, next to where the new Jimboomba Bunnings will be, is owned by Woodmans Mitre 10, who also own the Beenleigh Mega Mitre 10.

The Beenleigh store was purchased in 1995 by the Woodman family who then renovated it to become a Mitre 10 Home & Trade store in the late 1990s. They have been running the Jimboomba Mitre 10 since 2018.

Before this, the Woodman family ran a Mitre 10 in West Mackay, which they have owned since 1976. Their West Mackay Mitre 10 shut down in 2017, with the Woodman family blaming the opening of a new Bunnings near the Mackay store.

In 2017 Kerry Woodman announced the Mackay store would remain a head office for his other trade supply businesses, while Woodman’s Mitre 10 stores in Sarina, Marian, Proserpine and Cannonvale would be rebranded as Porters Mitre 10.
