A teen burglar with a “taste for luxury cars” has been sentenced in Beenleigh Magistrates Court for 25 offences, including six burglaries where Porsches, BMWs, expensive bikes, safes and other significant valuables were pilfered.

Crestmead teenager Jaydin John Russon, 19, pleaded guilty to all offences on Wednesday, which the court heard were committed in a 10-month period between September 2019 and July this year.

Aside from the burglaries, Russon was charged with eight counts of fraud, two counts of stealing, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, three counts of breaching bail, receiving tainted property and possessing property obtained from trafficking or supplying.

Police prosecutor Tim Wise told the court it was “miraculous” Russon hadn’t spent a day in custody despite his reign of property crime, which saw him posing for social media photos on the bonnets of stolen vehicles and taunting police, among other aggravating behaviours.

Russon’s burglaries were committed at: Bauple Cres, Rochedale South (September 11, 2019); Suprano Pl, Wakerley (September 19, 2019); Pine Mountain Rd, Carindale (January 13, 2020); Highview Tce, Daisy Hill (March 6, 2020); Toohey Rd, Tarragindi (June 14, 2020); and West St, Coorparoo (July 4, 2020).

The court heard on two of the burglaries, more than $10,000 worth of property was stolen, not including the value of the vehicles.

“The defendant has an affinity for luxury cars,” Mr Wise said.

Two BMWs and a Porsche were stolen by Russon and his “network of associates”.

The court heard Russon characterised his own involvement in the crime spree as performing “lookout” duties.

Defence lawyer Michael O’Brien told the court his client had become a father about four months ago with his partner of two years.

He said Russon left school in Year 8 and hopes to work in concreting.

Russon is currently in receipt of Centrelink payments.

Mr O’Brien said Russon’s offending was the result of falling in with a “bad network of associates” he no longer sees anymore.

Magistrate Gary Finger pulled no punches in addressing Russon.

“I really hope one day you buy a nice motor vehicle that you cherish and you get up one morning and it’s not there, just so you know how it feels,” he said.

Russon was placed on two years’ probation and ordered to perform 150 hours’ community service.

Convictions were recorded on all charges.
