A young Logan mum has faced court after crashing her car while driving on an expired learner’s licence she used to gain access to the pokies.

Woodridge resident Jasmine Lee Bradnam, 25, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on November 11, to 12 charges including drug driving, two counts of driving an unregistered and uninsured car while unlicensed, one count of using false registration plates, two counts of failing to appear in court, one count of failing to comply with the duties of a driver involved in a crash and receiving tainted property.

The court heard Bradnam was caught on a number of occasions between February and December, 2021 driving on an expired learners licence and driving while uninsured and unregistered.

On December 27 on North Rd in Woodridge, Bradnam was caught drug driving.

“Police intercepted the vehicle at 7-Eleven in Woodridge,” the police prosecutor said.

“The test returned positive, showing the presence of the drug methamphetamine.

“She was on her learner’s but had not renewed her learner’s licence.”

She was also involved in a car crash where she provided false details to the other driver involved on July 25 in Woodridge.

“She made full admissions to being the driver at the time,” the police prosecutor said.

“She knew that she was unlicensed and didn’t want to get in trouble.”

Bradnam’s lawyer, Thomas Christie, said his client originally used an expired learner’s licence to get into the pokies.

“It was just sheer stupidity,” Mr Christie said.

Magistrate Patrina Clohessy said Bradnam’s criminal history was alarming.

“You do have criminal history, including most significantly your most serious charge – aggravated possession of drugs,” Ms Clohessy said.

“The (charges) do perhaps reflect potentially a bit of chaos in her life.”

Bradnam was fined $1300 for all offences.

She was also disqualified from driving for three months.

Convictions were recorded.
