Woodridge Dad Jarred Allan Owen Christopher jailed for disqualified driving, drug, weapon offences

An unemployed drug addicted father of two will be spending Christmas in prison, after nearly two years of driving without a licence.

An unemployed, drug addicted father of two will be spending Christmas in prison after nearly two years driving without a licence and also being found with meth.

Jarred Allan Owen Christopher, 28, of Woodridge, hung his head in the dock when his sentence was handed down at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday.

Christopher pleaded guilty to 20 charges, including possessing methylamphetamine, cannabis, GHB, driving while unlicensed five times, possessing weapons and unlawfully using a vehicle.

The court heard Christopher had driven while court disqualified five times in the past year and a half.

Court documents revealed a litany of offending last year.

On May 16 last year, at Slacks Creek, he was charged with possessing meth and cannabis, along with driving a motorcycle without a licence. The motorcycle also didn’t have number plates attached.

On the same day he was also charged with driving with a relevant drug in his system.

A month later, at Logan Central, Christopher was charged with driving a motorcycle without a licence, which was suspended by court order. He was also charged for unlawfully using the bike.

Then, on July 5 at Logan Central, he was charged for not reporting to police to have identifying particulars taken; his fingerprints.

Fast forward to December 15 that year and Christopher was charged with driving a motorcycle with a licence which was suspended by a court order, and for possession of GHB.

The documents showed he continued thumbing his nose at the courts this year.

On July 8 at Woodridge, Christopher was charged for possessing a flick-knife and on October 15 he was picked up at Coomera where he was charged with not properly disposing a needle and driving a car without a licence.

Two weeks later, this time at Yarrabilba, Christopher was again charged for driving a car without a licence, for not displaying the correct P plates, and driving a defective car.

By then he had racked up four charges of failing to appear at Beenleigh Magistrates Court.

The court heard this offending followed a three-month prison sentence and five-year licence disqualification for the same offence in 2016.

The court heard he also drove while court disqualified on another six occasions, before his latest offending.

A police prosecutor asked for a 12-month prison sentence, with one-third of it actual jail time.

But Christopher’s lawyer, David Gilmore, said the level of contempt showed by his client to the court was lessened because it occurred four years into a five-year disqualification.

Mr Gilmore said his client had been largely itinerant and was struggling with a drug addiction at the time.

He said Christopher had lined up a job at a meat works, should he be released.

Magistrate Ron Kilner said Christopher’s past sentences for disqualified driving had not deterred him.

He said Christopher risked potentially injuring others, who would having no recourse for compensation if he again drove while unlicensed.

Mr Kilner said it was an aggravating feature that Kilner had driven a stolen vehicle while attempting to disguise it.

He sentenced Christopher to 10 months’ prison, with a January 8 parole date.

He was further disqualified from driving for two years and three months.
