A drunk Logan teen bashed an older man in a pub after they had an argument over the attention of a girl, a court has heard.

Izak Stephen Yewsang-Gonthier pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on April 26 to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm.

The court heard that on December 30, 2022 19-year-old Yewsang-Gonthier was drinking at the Kensington Tavern in Crestmead.

The Parkinson teen approached an older man who was with a woman and began flirting with her.

The man offered some of his cigarettes to Yewsang-Gonthier throughout the night but became frustrated with him for smoking too many.

The court heard the two men were in the toilet and the older man told Yeswang-Gonthier to back off and an argument erupted.

He then came out of the toilet and punched the older man in the face once, breaking his jaw.

The punch also caused swelling to his cheek bones and around the face.

The court heard he worked as a labourer and planned to complete an apprenticeship in the building industry.

Judge Nicholas Andreatidis said violence was never the answer and Yewsang-Gonthier needed to turn his life around.

“Take control of your drinking and stop hanging out with bad influences. If you roll around in pig crap you are going to come up covered in it,” he said.

“You've engaged with meaningful support services and are working two jobs, which is great.”

Yewsang-Gonthier was sentenced to a two-year probation order and no conviction was recorded.
