A Logan Woolworths employee’s unusual Facebook marketplace sale has been revealed in court, where she bizarrely sold a car which did not belong to her.

Brittany Lee Anderson, 27, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on April 26 to stealing a vehicle.

The court heard that on February 23, 2023 Eagleby woman Anderson got a loan to finance a car.

She stopped making payments and owed $8,546.

Recovery agents became involved when the payments became outstanding and began an investigation.

They discovered she had sold the car and police attended the purchaser of the car’s home on October 14, 2023.

This woman said she had bought Anderson’s car off Facebook marketplace for five thousand dollars on March 18 in Loganholme.

The court heard Anderson had declared for bankruptcy as well.

Defence lawyer Hannah Wallace said her client had a minor criminal history and did not know what she was doing was illegal.

“She did not know she wasn’t allowed to sell the vehicle and made a mistake,” she said.

“She has a minor criminal history.”

Magistrate Terry Duroux said this was a serious charge and affected an innocent member of the community.

“Your behaviour was appalling, I don’t believe you didn’t know you could sell the vehicle,” he said.

“You had no right to sell the vehicle and affected an innocent third party.

“This behaviour can’t be tolerated.”

Anderson was sentenced to 200 hours community service as part of a 12-month community service order.

No conviction was recorded.
