'I don't reckon you've matured at all': Logan man sentenced for horrific threats against ex

A Logan man, previously sentenced for choking his ex-partner has faced court after he sent almost 50 text messages, abusing and threatening her.

A Logan man, previously convicted of choking, has been sentenced after sending multiple harassing, threatening text messages to his ex partner.

The 30-year-old man pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday, August 31, to one count of breaching a Domestic Violence Order (DVO), one count of using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence, one count of possess dangerous drugs and one count of possess utensils.

The court heard the flooring labourer was seen speeding on Monash Rd in Loganlea on April 21 when police pulled him over.

“Police located a clip sealed bag containing a white crystal substance,” police prosecutor Sergeant Karine Evans said.

“Police also located a small black bag. In that, police located a glass pipe.”

The court heard 0.2g of methamphetamine was found.

“He made admissions that it was in fact meth,” Sergeant Evans said.

On May 13 this year, police went to interview the man at his Marsden home to see if he was complying with parole conditions.

“Police asked the defendant for his mobile phone,” Sergeant Evans said.

“He told police it was at his mum’s address.

“They then rang the mobile device and heard it ringing in the house.”

The court heard police found 46 messages on the phone from the man to his ex partner sent over a four-day period.

“The messages were abusive, swearing at her, calling her a c**t and threatening her,” Sergeant Evans said.

“It breaches the order of no contact with the aggrieved.”

His lawyer, Jemma Golding-Wallace, said her client is regretful of his actions.

“His remorse is demonstrated by his plea of guilty,” Ms Golding-Wallace said.

“There’s no allegation of violence.”

Magistrate Athol Kennedy said the man had not learnt from his time in custody.

“Why would you do it?” Mr Kennedy said.

“I don’t reckon you’ve matured at all.”

Magistrate Kennedy said the man was previously convicted and sentenced in Beenleigh District court for choking.

“Has it not taught you anything at all?”

The Marsden man was convicted and received nine months’ jail, suspended for 24 months.

He was convicted but not further punished for drug charges.
