Gordon Keith Doctor, 35, of Browns Plains sentenced for stolen vehicle use, meth possession

A magistrate has given a man responsible for the theft of a $50,000 Mercedes-Benz an extraordinary blasting for his mind-numbingly stupid joy ride.

The surprising history of meth

A disgusted magistrate has unleashed a tirade on a serial offender for driving to his parole appointment in a stolen car.

Appearing at Beenleigh Magistrates court on Monday, Gordon Keith Doctor, 35, of Browns Plains, pleaded guilty to unlawful use of a vehicle, possessing dangerous drugs and using registration plates from another vehicle.

The court heard the father-of-three had been on parole and probation for an 18-month prison sentence handed down to him in September for the theft of a $50,000-plus 2016 Mercedes-Benz, when on February 9 at Woodridge in Logan he drove to a parole appointment in another stolen vehicle.

According to the prosecution, he had meth in his possession and his stolen vehicle sported registration plates taken from another car.

When Doctor quipped that his behaviour was “pretty stupid” magistrate Pamela Dowse did not hold back.

“Turning up to parole in a stolen vehicle … it is arrogant, indecent, stupid, disgusting … it is outrageous,” Ms Dowse said.

Doctor’s offending was aggravated for occurring on a 10-page criminal history that also included a previous jail term for drug possession.

Defence solicitor Jacilynn Young said her client instructed that he realised “he should not have driven to parole in a stolen car”.

The court heard Doctor had fallen into serious drug use after a relationship break-up in 2019, leading to his first imprisonment in the same year.

According to Ms Young, there were marked gaps in his offending when he cared for his children full-time.

The court further heard Doctor planned to move to Mount Gravatt to live with his cousin and work in a labouring position.

With 131 days in pre-sentence custody deemed time served, Doctor was sentenced to 18 months’ prison with an August 5 parole eligibility date.

A conviction was recorded.
