A Robina financial adviser has landed in court after dangerously speeding and crashing her car on a quiet suburban street in Beenleigh.

29-year-old Elizabeth Grace Marshall, also known as Elizabeth Fountain, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday to one count of operating a vehicle dangerously (excessively speeding).

The court heard Marshall, who is also a justice of the peace, ploughed her car into someone’s property after speeding down Pleasant Ave in Beenleigh and failing to make a turn on January 30, 2021.

Police prosecutor Donna Kay told the court Marshall was calculated driving at an average speed of 112km/h in a 50 zone following an analysis of dashcam footage.

“There was a very near miss in relation to another vehicle on the road at that time, travelling in the opposite direction,” she said.

“It’s really lucky that someone wasn’t seriously injured and not killed in relation to this incident.”

Marshall’s lawyer told the court his client had recently sold her vehicle and was on her way to deliver it to its new owners when the crash occurred.

“She was following her partner who was driving ahead of her and lost sight of his vehicle and the reason why she accelerated was to catch up so she could see where he was going,” he said.

“She accelerated more than she intended to … as she approached the corner she was momentarily distracted by something, a noise or something on the radio.

“She saw the corner too late … as you see on the video she barely steered into the corner at all.”

The court heard Marshall had no criminal history.

She was ordered to complete 15 months on probation and was disqualified from driving for six months. No conviction was recorded.
