An assistant manager at a popular Logan furniture store has faced court for fraudulently embezzling over $6,000 through fake refunds.

Daniel John Borowski, 33, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday, October 10 to two counts of stealing from a clerk or servant.

The court heard that between June and October last year, Borowski stole $6274 from Snooze in Slacks Creek by creating false refund transactions.

The Shailer Park man worked as assistant manager at the furniture store and created 15 fake refunds.

Borowski was sentenced to 12 months prison in 2015 for the same offending at a different business.

The court heard Borowski consistently held employment in the retail and customer service industry.

He was father to a four-year-old son and a stepfather to a six-year-old daughter.

Magistrate Patrina Clohessy said the charge of stealing by clerk or servant was taken seriously by the courts.

“The offence is aggravated by the breach of trust you held as an assistant manager and the breach of trust to your employer at the company,” she said.

“You have relevant criminal history and were previously dealt with for similar offending in 2015.”

Borowski was sentenced to 12 months prison, wholly suspended for two years.

He was also ordered to pay $6274 in compensation to the victim.

Borowski will remain behind bars as he serves time for an unrelated district court sentence, where he will be eligible for parole in January.
