A Logan dad has fronted court after allegedly making “very specific” threats to kill his children, all while in the presence of police officers.

The man, who is aged in his 30s and cannot be named to protect the identities of his alleged victims, appeared in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday, August 3 to apply for bail.

He stands charged with one count each of making threats and possessing property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence.

It is alleged the dad-of-two recently made “very specific” threats to kill his family in the presence of police officers before picking up a knife and holding it to one of his children.

“‘I’ll come back and do what I need to do’,” the man was quoted as saying.

“‘I brought them into this world and I will take them out too’.”

Magistrate Mark Howden noted the threats could not be disputed because they were made in front of officers.

Defence lawyer Scheryn Aspinall-Clarke said her client’s threats were “empty” and he denied ever holding a knife to his child.

The court heard the man was living with his ex-partner and children, who he supported financially, when he allegedly committed the crimes.

According to the prosecution, police were alerted to the address by a child and arrived to find two damaged vehicles and a woman, the man’s ex-partner, distressed and in a bed.

“The parties were arguing. Police separated the parties, they detained the respondent,” Mr Howden read from the prosecution’s statement of facts.

“‘It’s my house, don’t tell me what to do’,” the man was quoted as telling officers.

Mr Howden said police observed the woman to be “very upset and traumatised”.

They exited the home to investigate the front of the house and the man allegedly closed and locked the door. A child was heard screaming, “Dad!”.

“He’s then picked up a knife,” Mr Howden said.

“Police have re-entered the address and observed the respondent walking down the hallway.”

As the magistrate deliberated whether to grant the man bail, the defendant exclaimed from the dock that he would give his children a “hiding” upon returning home because they were “disrespectful”.

The man’s application was refused and his matter was adjourned to Beenleigh Magistrates Court on September 14.
