A Logan concreter accused of stalking a woman – calling her more than 200 times and completing burnouts outside her home – has been refused bail in a Beenleigh court.

Colin James Lawlor, 22, appeared in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday, August 8 charged with one count of unlawful stalking at Jimboomba.

He is accused of calling a woman more than 200 times and sending her numerous text and Facebook messages between June 20 and July 30 this year.

The court heard CCTV footage also identified Lawlor’s motor vehicle outside the woman’s house, where it is alleged he completed burnouts.

Defence barrister Jason Voight said his client agreed with “some” but not all of what the prosecution said happened.

Mr Voight noted Lawlor was a young man with no family in Queensland and if convicted of the “concerning” charges before the court, he could be sentenced to a term of imprisonment.

Magistrate Michael O’Driscoll acknowledged Lawlor’s application for bail was opposed by the prosecution with the court hearing the victim was fearful he might try to intimidate her and her family with phone calls, messages, and home visits.

“The victim is anxious all the time at home, travelling in her vehicle, and when she is at work,” Mr O’Driscoll said.

The court heard Lawlor was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment in Rockhampton District Court in February 2019 and has a criminal history featuring offences such as arson, entering a premises, and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Mr O’Driscoll refused Lawlor’s application for bail, saying he posed an unacceptable risk of committing further offences, endangering the safety of the complainant and interfering with witnesses.

The matter will next be mentioned in Beaudesert Magistrates Court on August 30.
