A Logan construction worker’s disgusting “parenting lesson” has been brought before a court, along with a string of other offences including 130 text messages sent in 24 hours and a revolt against police which led to him being shot with a stun gun.
The Logan man, 35, committed 14 offences between May 26 and July 19 in 2022, including breaking and entering at his former partner’s home, where their son lived.
“When (his former partner) returned home, the front security screen door had been pried open and she noticed that the defendant had been in the home,” police prosecutor Rhiannon Dhillon told the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
“He had removed property.
“He observed a shovel at the back door.
“When his son came out he said he had found dog faeces in his bed and had believed his father had done it.
“Later on his Facebook, (he) had put up a post of dog faeces on his bed and had called it a parenting lesson.”
During that period, the man sent an avalanche of demeaning text messages to his ex-partner — more than 130 were sent in 24 hours.
“He said things including, ‘f--king scummy b-tch, what a sack of sh-t, all you give a f--k about is yourself, can’t wait to f--k up your life next’,” Ms Dhillon said.
“He said: ‘You already screwed me over twice … you are living on borrowed time’.
“My friend is coming to see you to arrange new accommodation you could say.
“These messages are harassing and demeaning to the aggrieved.”
The man was also charged with obstructing police after he resisted arrest, told police to “get f---ed” and had to be tasered.
The court heard police found a sharps container with syringes and a hand grinder used for drugs in his backpack when arrested.
He pleaded guilty to 14 offences including, using a carriage service to menace or harass, burglary, obstructing a police officer, fail to take care of a syringe, possessing a grinder and breaching bail.
The man, who represented himself, said he had been in a relationship with his ex-partner for more than 20 years.
“I know I’ve lost my children, I’ve lost everything, I’ve lost everything I’ve built up over the last 20 years,” he said.
“Most of the messages that have come out are mostly to see my children.
“I’m still held accountable for my actions but at the time I felt that the police and the court were helping to destroy my life.
“After May last year I was also homeless for about two months, before I was incarcerated.
“I’ve started an early drug recovery course.
“I’m starting from the ground up at the moment.”
Magistrate Patrina Clohessy said the man’s actions were concerning.
“You continue to contact the aggrieved despite there being no contact provisions in place,” she said.
“That conduct included a great number of texts, including abusive and threatening messages by you.
“The messages were harassing and demeaning to the aggrieved.
“This conduct, I have no doubt, would have caused distress and would have impacted on the aggrieved and your family.”
The man received a head sentence of 12 months imprisonment.
His 207 days served in pre-sentence custody was declared as time served and he was granted immediate parole.
Convictions were recorded.
