A 26-year-old mother-of-four who broke into a police holding yard faces months in jail should she reoffend before July.
Coral-Ann Smith-Roberts, of Waterford West, walked free from Beenleigh Magistrates Court today after pleading guilty to a string of charges.
These included entering a premises to commit an indictable offence, unlawful use of a vehicle, trespass and possession of dangerous drugs.
The court heard a combination of drug abuse and dodgy company saw the defendant break into a police holding yard with co-defendants on March 18.
Locks were cut during the brazen caper.
Police prosecutor Tim Wise said the “contemptuous” offence followed a ride as a passenger in a stolen vehicle on March 12 in what was a pattern of escalating behaviour.
On April 4 she was found in possession of dangerous drugs and scales for measuring drugs.
And on April 29 and May 2 she was found with stolen registration plates on her.
It came after Smith-Roberts was granted immediate parole release on a prison sentence previously for failing to appear at court.
It was noted her co-defendant in her most recent offending had received 12 months’ prison for his part in the break-in.
Defence solicitor Greg Lutvey said his client had a traumatic upbringing, had been “led astray” by untoward company and had not been before the courts since 2019.
Acting magistrate Patrick Murphy warned should she reoffend in the next six months, she could expect to be locked up.
“You are the master of your own destiny,” he said.
Smith-Roberts was sentenced to six months’ jail and granted immediate parole release.
Convictions were recorded.
