A $10 million sports oval is underway for a rural suburb south of Brisbane which is set to have its population balloon to 80,000 by 2040.
Greenbank, Logan is expected to have its population of approximately 8000 reach a whopping 80,000 in the next 20 years.
Everleigh, a master planned community, has been designed and developed by real estate group Mirvac.
Mirvac Queensland residential manager Warwick Bible previously said the Everleigh estate would have about 750 residents by the start of the 2022 school year and 3000 by early 2026.
A part of this community is a $73 million school, which is underway and set to open early next year.
In stage one, Everleigh State School will service the North Maclean area and cater to around 700 students but will have a total capacity for 1400 students.
Students in Prep to Year 6 will walk through the school gates in January 2022 with an admin block, library, multipurpose hall, oval, playgrounds and classrooms.
Construction has started on a $10 million oval right next to the school on Ivory Parkway.
The 5.5 hectare Everleigh AFL Oval will include a full-sized field and warm-up oval and is anticipated to be completed in late 2022.
Funding arrangements are also being finalised for a clubhouse to eventually complement the new facility.
The fields are being developed by Mirvac Residential and have been designed in partnership with Logan City Council and AFL Queensland, to provide new opportunities for Logan residents to participate in one of Australia’s most popular sports.
The new grounds will ultimately become part of a 25 hectare sports and recreation precinct at Everleigh, co-located with the soon-to-open Everleigh State School.
Logan City Councillor Natalie Willcocks said the new AFL oval will be bringing a connection to the school, sport and community, and will be a welcome addition to her growing Division. “Bring on the first bounce,” Cr Willcocks said.
