A young up-and-coming Gold Coast solicitor has landed himself in hot water after allegedly blowing more than three times the legal limit.

A Gold Coast criminal lawyer has fronted court in Beenleigh for the first time charged with driving under the influence of liquor, representing himself.

Ormeau resident Callan Mackenzie Brown, 28, a solicitor at Cooper Maloy Legal, which has offices at Southport and Beenleigh, was busted allegedly high-range on December 18 last year at Orange Mountain Rd, Ormeau.

His exact blood-alcohol reading was not heard in open court, nor was it contained within publicly available documents.

Mr Brown’s appearance began awkwardly with Beenleigh Magistrate Michael O’Driscoll asking him where his client was, not realising they were one and the same on this occasion.

Rockhampton-born Mr Brown, who appeared in a smart blue suit and had a stack of Legal Aid forms under his arm, requested and was granted an adjournment to February 9.

According to his profile on the Cooper Maloy website, Mr Brown completed his law degree at Griffith University on the Gold Coast and stuck with the firm after completing his PLT (practical legal training) there.

“Callan’s experience is varied over the areas of general practices offered by the firm including; Criminal Defence, Family Law, Domestic Violence and Children’s Court,” the colourless profile concludes.
