A GOLD Coast veteran blew 0.137 per cent BAC on Anzac Day last month after becoming “overwhelmed” by seeing his military friends, consuming at least five bourbons the night before and rum and milk at a Dawn Service.

Burleigh Heads man Dale Craig Saville, 49, was fined $750 and disqualified from driving for three months. No conviction was recorded. This was his first drink driving offence.

The court heard that Saville was pulled over just before noon on Anzac Day by police on Nujaloo Rd Slacks Creek after they witnessed a traffic infringement as Saville travelled on the M1.

Saville told police he had consumed “five or six” bourbons the previous evening and rum and milk at a Dawn Service that morning.

The court heard Saville became “overwhelmed” at seeing old friends from his military days and so began “drinking heavily”.

Saville was a decorated soldier during a 10 year stint in the Army from 1994 – 2004, the court heard.

Saville was deployed to Timor Leste in 1999 and the Solomon Islands in 2000, winning awards and commendations during each tour.
