An alleged sexual predator has been granted bail in a Logan court on charges of child grooming, rape and sexual assault.

The 50-year-old man applied for bail in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday, July 3.

The Browns Plain man, who cannot be named, was charged with three counts of rape, one count of grooming and two counts of sexual assault.

He was also charged with possession of dangerous drugs.

The court heard the alleged rapes and sexual assaults occurred on March 5 this year and the possession of dangerous drugs allegedly occurred on March 19.

The grooming offence allegedly happened between June 25, 2019 and June 25, 2020.

Police prosecution opposed bail but defence lawyer Zane Chapman said the risks could be ameliorated with strict bail conditions.

Magistrate Gary Finger granted bail but imposed strict conditions.

“I’m satisfied with the bail conditions,” Mr Finger said.

“He must not contact the complainant or her mother. He must not leave this address without officer’s permission and cannot leave the state.”

The matter will next be mentioned in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on July 19.
