A court has heard how two brothers started a wild bar brawl at a Logan pub before turning their attention to a woman who was kicked in the head and had her phone stolen.

Lauchlan Heard, 22, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on February 16 to assault occasioning bodily harm.

Heard’s brother Joshua Heard, 22, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on February 8 to stealing.

The court heard the brothers were drinking at the Royal Hotel at Beenleigh on November 12, 2021 when a fight broke out.

A woman started to film the fight on her mobile phone and Joshua Heard took her phone from her and ran down the street.

She responded by punching him in the back as he was getting away.

When Lauchlan Heard saw his brother being attacked, he came to his aid and pushed the woman over.

The court heard once she was on the ground he kicked her in the head twice with steel cap boots and kicked her hard in the leg.

The entire incident was captured on CCTV footage and the victim broke a finger during the altercation

Lauchlan Heard also punched a security guard and shattered the venue’s glass door during the brawl.

For those incidents he was convicted of common assault and wilful damage in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court and placed on an 18 month probation order.

The court heard Lauchlan Heard has since given up alcohol and turned his life around.

Judge Craig Chowdhury said the community was sick and tired of drunken violence.

“You were obviously drunk at the time but that is no excuse, you are lucky she was not hurt more seriously,” he said.

“When you are kicking somebody in the head with steel cap boots, you could have done all sorts of damage.”

Lauchlan Heard was sentenced to nine months in prison, suspended.

Joshua Heard was fined $400 and ordered to pay $300 in compensation to the victim.

He was also placed on a good behaviour bond for 12 months.
