A Logan man caught sharing 100 videos and 450 images of child exploitation material, has told a court he was using the content to blackmail people interested in the images.

Brendon James Scott Mye, 32, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on Thursday, August 10 to possessing child exploitation material and using a carriage service to access and transmit child abuse material.

The court heard that on September 9, last year Mye was using Twitter to upload child exploitation material.

Police searched his Logan home and found child abuse material on his Samsung phone.

Mye, from Eagleby, told police he was uploading the content to try and find people who were interested in child pornography in order to blackmail them.

He said he could not explain why he kept possession of the material.

The court heard there was a total of 452 images and 100 videos in his possession and Mye co-operated extensively with police during the investigation.

In a statement tendered to the court, Mye said he regretted his decisions and understood it was wrong.

“I knew what I was doing was wrong and looking back I regret everything,” he said.

“It makes me sick.”

Judge Craig Chowdhury said child exploitation material had damning consequences.

“Child pornography is not a victimless crime, children around the world are being physically and emotionally traumatised,” he said.

“Every month I see this before the courts and transmitting material is a very serious offence.”

Mye was sentenced to 15 months prison, wholly suspended for two years and placed on a probation order for two years.

He was also fined $500 with a recognisance release order and placed on the sex offender registry for five years.
