ART lovers in Beenleigh were devastated on Friday when a large community painting was stolen from its public display on the fence outside Beenleigh State High School.
Beenleigh artists June Hintz and Nate Hamon from Art Revolution joined forces with other artists to create the relocatable works, designed to be moved around the city — but not stolen.
In a desperate plea to the thieves, Mr Hamon took to Facebook with a heartfelt request for the mural’s return.
“It may not be on the world shocking level of the Edvard Munch Scream thefts but it cuts pretty damned deep considering the time, effort, talent and purpose behind creating this art in the first place,” he wrote.
“We all do stupid things and none of us are innocent enough to throw rocks, so if whoever took this is reading this, bring it back and we’ll shrug it off.”
“Come and ask for me at the Beenleigh PCYC and I’ll buy you a coffee or turmeric latte, just to prove there are no hard feelings.”
Mr Hamon said the thieves could remain anonymous and promised there would be no naming and shaming and suggested the canvas could be put back on the fence using zip ties.
