A Logan train driver has faced court for “extremely serious offences” after he left a woman scared for her life.

A Logan train driver has been sentenced after a horrific attack that left a woman with injuries to her face and mouth.

Bethania resident, Malcolm John Shelley, 51, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on August 31 to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm, one count of unlawful stalking and twice failing to appear in court.

The court heard the Beenleigh train driver assaulted a woman last year at a Logan address, leaving her with extensive facial injuries.

“These offences are extremely serious,” police prosecutor Sergeant Karine Evans said.

“The photographs which I’ve tendered show the injuries.

“Some (show injuries) to her face and mouth.”

Sergeant Evans said the victim’s mental health had suffered due to the attack.

“She’s quite upset,” she said.

“She is extremely fearful of him.”

The Beenleigh train station master and driver was also charged with unlawfully stalking and failing to appear in court on two occasions.

Shelley’s Lawyer, Nick Crawford, said his client had reflected while spending 308 days in pre-sentence custody.

“It was an extremely eye opening experience for him,” Mr Crawford said.

Shelley was convicted and sentenced to 22 months’ jail for unlawful stalking and 14 months for the assault.

He was fined $350 for failing to appear in court and is eligible for parole release today.
