A Logan removalist has been sentenced for a string of crimes including stealing cash, burning out a car and using a stolen gel blaster gun to scare the public.

Beenleigh resident, Blade William Porter, 18, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court today, October 26, to 11 charges including unauthorised dealing with shop goods, entering premises and committing an indictable offence, unlawful possession of weapons, stealing, breaching bail, unlicensed driving and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The court heard Porter was at Cash King in Beenleigh on April 30 this year when he and four others shoplifted three gel blaster guns.

“Four persons have walked towards the gel blaster section,” police prosecutor Sergeant Stephen Cochran said.

“They have begun placing them into their pants covering them with their hoodies.

“They have paid for one, distracting the store clerk while they stole an additional three.”

On May 30 Porter and others involved have been seen walking around Beenleigh pointing gel blasters at people, the court heard.

“They have been seen pointing weapons at members of the public, causing distress,” Sergeant Cochran said.

Later, on June 23, Porter stole a car parked at the Gloria Hotel in Springwood, where the keys had been left under the seat of a Ford Sport Eco SUV.

Sergeant Cochran said police later found the car burnt out and “completely destroyed”.

Porter was also charged with stealing cash from a person's handbag, unlawfully using a motorcycle, not complying with a court-ordered curfew, stealing sunglasses and a microphone, possessing a flick knife, a water pipe and shotgun rounds and powder.

“He’s showed no remorse for his actions,” Sergeant Cochran said.

Porter was self-represented and said he committed the crimes for money.

“Doing crime, it gets you nowhere I guess,” he said.

Magistrate John Costanzo was appalled by Porter’s behaviour in court when the teen was caught smirking while at the bar table.

“Is this humorous is it?” Mr Costanzo said.

“I don’t know if you understand the seriousness of this.”

Magistrate Costanzo said Porter’s behaviour was foolish.

“People took it very seriously, they were frightened, they called the police,” he said.

“You need to understand the risk you took.

“You have caused a lot of inconvenience and expensive for a lot of people.

“You’re this close to going to jail.

“You also need to get off the drugs, they will not help you.

“You appear to be a very immature young man.”

Porter was given a probation order of nine months

“You have to do better,” Mr Costanzo said.
