Bail allowed for Ipswich dad Kevin Tuhoro accused of brutal assault

A teen dad from Ipswich has been released on bail after allegedly participating in a “violent attack” which left a man with broken bones.

An Ipswich teenager has been released on bail after allegedly assaulting a man so violently he was left with broken bones.

Kevin-Te Aroha Hayden Tuhoro, 18, appeared in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday, August 3 charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm while armed in company and entering a dwelling and committing an indictable offence.

It is alleged the Redbank Plains dad carried out “quite a violent attack” on a man on July 18 this year which left him with “broken bones”.

The prosecution told the court the alleged victim had photographic evidence of Tuhoro seated in the passenger seat of a vehicle as it drove away from the crime scene.

Defence solicitor Sheryn Aspinall-Clarke said her client would be taking a “certain course” with respect to the burglary charge, but the second would “need negotiations” as he instructed he was not the “main” perpetrator.

The court heard Tuhoro was a father of one, having had a child with an older woman when he was 15 years old.

Ms Aspinall-Clarke said Tuhoro had been offered a job to clean Airbnb units upon his release.

Taking into account the seriousness of the alleged offences before the court and Tuhoro’s young age, Magistrate Mark Howden granted him bail with strict conditions – also ordering he wear an electronic monitoring device.

The matter was adjourned to Beenleigh Magistrates Court for further mention on August 31.
