A family cannabis dealing operation involving a father and his two sons has been busted by police, with a shotgun, $4000 in cash and half a kilogram of cannabis uncovered in their home, a court has heard.

Alan Leslie Jacobs, Timothy Jacobs and Liam Joseph Jacobs faced Beenleigh District Court on Friday, June 2.

The court heard the father and two sons were running a drug dealing operation from their Beenleigh home in 2021.

They were arrested on October 22 that year after police uncovered $4000 in cash, a shotgun and 650g of cannabis.

Text messages were also found which showed 374 occasions of low level cannabis supply to 44 customers, the court heard.

The court was told a “tick’’ book was discovered at the home which recorded 80 drug transactions.

Alan Jacobs, 57, pleaded guilty to one charge of trafficking dangerous drugs.

He did not profit personally from the trafficking but was sentenced on the basis his home was used to traffic the drug, the court was told.

Liam Jacobs, 23, pleaded guilty to trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing property suspected of having been used in the commission of a drug offence and possession of drug utensils.

The court heard Liam Jacobssold $3000 worth of cannabis.

Timothy Jacobs, also 23, pleaded guilty to trafficking dangerous drugs, possessing property obtained from drug trafficking, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of explosives.

He co-operated with police and made admissions to purchasing a kilo of the drug every month, the court heard.

The shotgun and ammunition kept in the basement of the family home belonged to him, the court was told.

He was handed the largest prison sentence handed out to the three defendants by Judge Craig Chowdhury.

“This was overwhelmingly commercial,” Judge Chowdhury said.

“Cannabis is not the benign drug people think it is.

“Trafficking in drugs has always been viewed seriously by the courts and it is very hard to get away with trafficking in a dangerous drug. You will get caught.”

Judge Chowdhury said it was irresponsible of Alan Jacobs to participate in this behaviour and allow it in his home.

“You showed a bad example to your boys,” he said.

He was sentenced to 12 months’ prison, wholly suspended for 12 months.

Liam Jacobs was sentenced to two years’ prison and his bother was sentenced to two and a half years’ jail.

They were both released immediately on parole.
