The CEO of an international college has been fined by a Logan court for bashing an employee with a bracelet after he made disparaging remarks about the college boss’ wife.
Beenleigh Magistrates Court heard that Ajit Pal Singh, 42, was the CEO of New England College which “created pathways to university’’ for international students.
The Morningside man was accomplished in his career and a successful education director, the court was told during a hearing on December 1.
The court heard that on April 21 Mr Singh went to a former employee’s home in Slacks Creek and confronted him over disrespectful comments the man allegedly made about Singh’s wife.
Mr Singh was wearing a bracelet at the time and hit the employee over the head with it.
His victim received multiple blows to the head and was bleeding, with bruises to the face.
Mr Singh pleaded guilty to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm while armed.
Magistrate Patrina Clohessy said Mr Singh had no criminal history and there was a reason for lashing out, something which was out of character for him.
“There is some context to the assault, but you were lucky there were not more serious injuries,” she said.
“When he walked up to you to shake your hand you hit him with a metal bracelet on your wrist.
“The victim said in a statement he holds no grudge towards you and hopes you find peace.”
Mr Singh was sentenced to 200 hours’ community service and ordered to pay $5000 in compensation to the victim.
No conviction was recorded.
