Abdullahi Eftin Ibrahim, 27, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm at Beenleigh District Court on Wednesday November 22, 2023.

The court heard Ibrahim, a refugee from Somalia, had an extensive history of committing crimes against women and on February 6, 2023 caused extensive facial deformation to a woman.

A judge said he smoked drugs with the woman regularly and had casual intimate relations with her.

“An argument broke out and she punched the bathroom door in anger, she pushed Ibrahim causing a glass pipe to break,” he said.

“He swung the pipe at her face causing a large open gash.

“He caused a disfiguring injury to this woman,” she said.

Ibrahim tried to get the woman to tell police a false story, the court was told.

A defence barrister said Ibrahim and his family fled from Somalia because of civil unrest.

“He has three young children to support and has a supportive family,” a barrister said.

“He has driven for Uber and has employment lined up in meatworks.

“He has already served 9 and a half months in custody.

“He did express remorse immediately,” he said.

A judge considered Ibrahim’s plea of guilty and encouraged him to stop smoking drugs.

“You’re still a young man,” he said.

Ibrahim was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months imprisonment to be released on parole immediately.

Convictions were recorded.
