A Woodridge woman who allegedly held up a petrol station in Meadowbrook with a bloody HIV-laden syringe, for $150 in cash and cigarettes, was granted bail at a Logan court.

Jessica Michelle Ede, 32, appeared in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on charges of robbery with a weapon, driving without a license, evading police and drug possession.

The court heard on October 4, the defendant entered a Meadowbrook petrol station in the early hours of the morning.

Police prosecution said the defendant allegedly confronted the attendant aggressively, produced an uncapped syringe and made demands.

“This is a HIV syringe, you do not want to get hurt, hand over money and cigarettes,” she allegedly said.

The cashier allegedly gave Ede $150 in cash and $100 worth of cigarettes and the incident was captured on the petrol stations' CCTV footage.

That same day, police pursued her for a stolen vehicle and attended her home address.

She was allegedly witnessed in the vehicle and then drove away, evading police.

Ede’s legal defence said her application for bail centred on wanting to spend time with her ill mother, who was dealing with crippling stage three emphysema and was currently hospitalised.

The defence said Ede had “gone down the root of drug abuse” which had commenced in her early 20s.

The court heard the defendant had a history of serious offending, four previous breaches of bail and one failure to appear.

Magistrate Mark Howden said he believed Ede could improve her behaviour if she focused on her sobriety.

“I have regard that all her offending is drug related, I do think she can show a change in circumstances,” he said.

“Threatening somebody with a syringe is, however, a very serious matter.”

The defendant was granted bail and is set to appear at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on October 5.
